Main Khayal Hoon Kisi Aur Ka with English Translation
Main Khayaal Hoon Kisi Aur Ka Mujhe Sochta Koi Aur Hai
I am somebody else’s thought, but someone else thinks about me
Sar-e-Aa'iinaa Mera Aks Hai Pas-e-Aa'iinaa Koi Aur Hai
In front of the mirror I am standing, but behind the mirror its someone else
(Sar-e-aa'iinaa : in front of the mirror; Pas-e-aa’iinaa : behind the mirror)
Main Kisi Ke Dast-e-Talab Main Hoon Tou Kisi Ke Harf-e-Dua Main
I am in the desiring hands of some and in the praying words of some
(Dast : hand; Talab : desire; Harf-e-dua : words of prayers)
Main Naseeb Hoon Kisi Aur Ka Mujhe Maangta Koi Aur Hai
I am the destiny of someone, but I am demanded by someone else
Ajab Aitbaar-o-Be Aitbaari Ke Darmiyan Hai Zindagi
My life is hanging in the balance of belief and disbelief
Main Qareeb Hoon Kisi Aur Ke Mujhe Jaanta Koi Aur Hai
I am close to someone, but I am well known to someone else
Meri Raushni Teray Khadd-o-Khaal Se Mukhtalif Tou Nahi Magar
My appearance is not different from yours but
(Khadd-o-Khaal : appearence; Mukhtalif : different)
Tu Qareeb Aa Tujhe Dekh Loon Tu Wohi Hai Ya Koi Aur Hai
Come near, I want to see if you are the same or someone else
Tujhe Dushmano Ki Khabar Na thi, Mujhe Doston Ka Pata Nahi
You didn't know about your enemies, I am not aware of my friends
Teri Daastaan Koi Aur Thi , Mera Wakiya Koi Aur Hai
Your tale was something different, mine was something else
Wohi Munsifon Ki Rivaayatain Wohi Faislon Ki Eibaaratain
The same old traditions of judges and the same wrong decisions of the court
(Munsif : judge; Rivaayat : tradition; Eibaarat : diction, style)
Mera Jurm Tou Koi Aur Tha Par Meri Saza Koi Aur Hai
My crime was something different, but my punishment was for something else
Kabhi Laut Aen Tou Puchna Nahi, Dekhna Unhe Ghaur Se
When they return back, don't ask just see them attentively
Jinhay Rastay Main Khabar Hue Ke Ye Rasta Koi Aur Hai
Those who found in the middle of the journey that this road is leading to somewhere else
Jo Meri Riyaazat-e-neem-shab Ko “Saleem” Subah Na Mil Saki
Saleem, if my religious exercises at midnight don't get rewarded
(Riyaazat-e-neem-shab : religious exercises at mid-night)
To Phir Is Ke Maa'ney To Ye Huwaye Ke Yahaan Khuda Koi Aur Hai
Then this will mean that the God here is someone else

Wonderful translation. .shukriya dost..
ReplyDeleteKeep it up...
I think the lines "Kabhi Laut Aen Tou Puchna Nahi, Dekhna Unhe Ghaur Se" should be read as "Kabhi Laut Aen Tou Puchna, Nahi Dekhna Unhe Ghaur Se". The comma makes the difference. It means when he/she comes back don't see him/her intently for he/she forsook you in the middle of journey realising that the paths were different (Jinhay Rastay Main Khabar Hue Ke Ye Rasta Koi Aur Hai).
ReplyDeleteI may be wrong. Someone may throw more light on this.
Best,
mYLEIN
You are right. the comma makes the diffrence. Good job!
Deleteकमाल!

ReplyDeleteThe translation also is not understandable and if any one versatile in Urdu can put the gist of this Ghazal would be doing geatest service to the ones who enjoy this song very Melodiously sung by Srijita Konar to understand this.
ReplyDeleteI think the Ghazal is about Sufi concept of realation between God and His Devotee.

excellent explanation of all the verses..
ReplyDeleteJust in the last verse, I think the translation has gone a bit away from its real meaning..
Here I think, Saleem means safe, and not a name of a person..
rest of the translation looks fine
Thanks
In a Shayari, the Shayar typically mentions his/her name in the last `sher'. This has been written by Saleem Kauser
